In Greed they Trust

Is it fair that a site such as TripAdvisor that claims to have more than 20 million members allows anyone to post reviews without any form of validation?
Anyone can join TripAdvisor, there is not even a simple Email validation, not that that means much, because free email accounts are freely available online at the likes of Gmail, Yahoo, Ymail, Rocketmail, LiveMail and lots more.

There is nothing stopping people from using TripAdvisor to post false reviews.
Yes, of course owners are going to post positive reviews about their own establishment if they can get away with it, anyone saying they would not do the same, is a blatant liar!.. But posting positive reviews about yourself is pretty innocent, let’s be honest, no one’s livelihood is ever going to be on the block!. TripAdvisor knows this is happening, as does the rest of the world, and apart from a few pathetic attempts to minimize the problem, they just allow people to carry on. So far no damage done in my books, it’s like Stephen Kaufer, President and CEO of TripAdvisor saying he has a sexy voice, or that Christine Petersen, President, TripAdvisor for Business says her daughter is the brightest in the class, or..  one more.. Barbara Messing, Chief Marketing Officer say’s her mother’s Apple pie is the best ever!!… If it’s true or False.. No damage done..

TripAdvisor Greed

Things change however when people start using TripAdvisor for all the wrong reasons, and start posting lies and libel reviews. TripAdvisor doesn’t feel the need to validate these damaging reviews, they just post them, with absolutely no consideration about the consequences.
Is it fair or even right that TripAdvisor posts reviews like “Hotel stinks” Owners Arrogant and rude” Sheets stank of urine” Mold on the walls” Rats in the room” Fleas in the bed” ??.. If they are true, then YES we should be told, because places like this do not deserve your business. However seeing as TripAdvisor cannot assure the reviews are true and come from a validated user they should NOT be posted.

If I was to post in big bold letters that Stephen Kaufer, President and CEO of TripAdvisor had sex with under aged boys, he is not going to like it.. or that Christine Petersen, (President, TripAdvisor for Business) Daughter was arrested for prostitution and crack cocaine use 4 years ago.. She is not going  to like it!.. the same goes for Barbara Messing, ( Chief Marketing Officer ) if we posted that her Mother is an alcoholic.

[ as far as we know, none of the above is true ]

Some people think that we have a problem with TripAdvisor, however, that is far from the truth, the concept is great, and it could easily work. but, we do have a problem with the fact that TripAdvisor posts DAMAGING reviews without any form of validation at all!! All it is, is a “Dog eat Dog Platform” where  you can easily blackmail and / or ruin the reputation of someone just trying hard to make a living.

So, ask yourself.. WHY does TripAdvisor choose to continue allowing anyone to become a member and post lies and libel reviews?

We believe that the reason is.. Numbers!! the more people that are so called members means a decent Email database, which means potential advertising  revenue.. at the end of the day TripAdvisor is a business, and doesn’t give a rats about anyone but themselves and the bank balance.
